Mets have contacted Scott Boras about Shin-Soo Choo

The two sides have not yet discussed potential contract details.

The New York Mets have contacted Scott Boras, informing the agent that they are interested in outfielder Shin-Soo Choo, reports Mike Puma of the New York Post.

The two sides have yet to discuss parameters of a contract. Boras is attempting to land Choo a contract in the $90 million range, according to Puma. The Mets, however, do not plan to offer Choo a contract longer than four seasons.

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson does not plan to commit to a deal worth $100 million for any player this offseason, sources told Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. The beat writer does not expect the club to sign high-dollar outfielders Choo or Jacoby Ellsbury, indicating that the club will focus on second-tier targets instead.

Alderson did indicate that the potential loss of a draft pick will not be an issue for the team if they work out an agreement with a free agent, such as Choo, who was extended a qualifying offer. The Mets’ first-round draft choice is protected, meaning the team will forfeit a second-round pick if they sign one of the 13 players who received qualifying offers.
