Joba Chamberlain receiving interest from ‘more than a dozen teams’

The New York Yankees are not one of the teams interested in the pitcher.

Jim Rogash

Free-agent pitcher Joba Chamberlain has received interest from more than a dozen teams, but the New York Yankees are not one of them, according to Sweeny Murti of Sportsradio 66 WFAN. Chamberlain is a free agent of the first time in his career.

The 28-year-old right-hander spent the first six seasons of his career in New York, but went from fan favorite to afterthought over the course of his tenure. He debuted as a dominant reliever in 2007, but after a failed attempt to convert to a starter and a subsequent series of injuries, the portly hurler has fallen out of favor in the Big Apple and is primed to start the next phase of his career.

In 2013, Chamberlain threw 42 innings in 45 appearances out of the bullpen, posting a lackluster 4.93 ERA and walking 26 batters against just 38 strikeouts. He missed all of May with an oblique injury. He has a 3.85 career ERA over 444⅔ innings with 446 strikeouts.
