Carlos Beltran rumors: Star OF reportedly wants 3- or 4-year deal

Carlos Beltran has put together three consecutive healthy seasons after struggling to stay on the field in 2009 and 2010. That might enable him to sign a contract that will last into his 40s.

Free agent outfielder Carlos Beltran is looking for a three- or four-year deal, and it likely won't come from his former team, the St. Louis Cardinals, according to Yahoo! Sports' Tim Brown.

The 36-year-old veteran prefers to sign with a team that has a shot at playing in the postseason, and the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox will be in the mix, per Brown. The Cardinals, who have Matt Holliday under contract for three more years and will need to eventually make room for highly-touted prospect Oscar Taveras, don't appear to have a spot for Beltran, notes Brown.

Beltran signed a two-year, $26 million deal with the Cardinals prior to 2012 and proved his worth to the team by hitting .282/.343/.493 with 56 home runs in two seasons. He had 30 postseason hits while in a Cardinals uniform, including five home runs in six playoff series.
