The San Francisco Giants have come to terms on a one-year deal with first baseman/outfielder Michael Morse, as Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area reports.

In signing Morse to a one-year deal, San Francisco has found their 2014 left fielder.

Morse is likely to play left field for the Giants, with Brandon Belt continuing to get most of the time at first.
The deal is reported to be worth about $5 million and includes performance-based incentives.
Last season, Giants’ left fielders combined to hit .257/.314/.347. Morse could help the team improve offensively considering his career .281/.334/.473 batting line. As a right handed hitter, his power should play well in AT&T Park and could complement the left-handed Belt in the lower half of the order.
After a slow start to his career, Morse broke out in 2011 for the Nationals -- slugging 31 home runs and posting a .910 OPS. Since then, he has struggled to stay on the field due to injuries, playing in just 190 games over the last two seasons. He was traded to the Mariners last winter, and when the team was struggling at the trade deadline, they shipped him to the Orioles as they chased the Wild Card.
Morse’s value is down because of those injuries, so a one-year deal could help him improve his market value for 2015 if he can return to form for the Giants.
