The nine-year MLB veteran has signed a one-year deal with the SK Wyverns of the Korea Baseball Organization, according to MLB Daily Dish's Chris Cotillo. Scott played sparingly for the Tampa Bay Rays last season, finishing with a .241/.326/.415 batting line. Injuries have limited the 35-year-old in each of the last five seasons, and his production has seen a corresponding decline. From 2006 to 2010, he hit .272/.357/.512 for the Orioles and Astros. Since, his OPS has dipped into the 700s, relegating him to a part-time role in Baltimore and Tampa Bay from 2011 to 2013.
Athletics acquire Corey Brown
The Washington Nationals have traded outfielder Corey Brown to the Oakland Athletics for cash considerations, according to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal. Brown was originally drafted by the A's with the 59th overall pick in the 2007 Amateur Draft. Brown was designated for assignment by the Nats to make room for free agent signing Nate McLouth.
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports, the Athletics believe Brown has a “legitimate shot to make [the] club” in 2014. In 747 games for As’ and Nationals’ affiliates, Brown posted a .267/.351/.484 batting line, but the 28-year-old’s minor league success has only resulted in 45 major league plate appearances.
Reds sign Chien-Ming Wang
The Cincinnati Reds have agreed to terms with Chien-Ming Wang on a minor-league deal that includes an invite to spring training, according to Focus Tawain. If Wang can work his way back to the majors with the Reds, the deal will be worth $1.25 million and could reach up to $3 million if Wang reaches all of the deal's incentives. Last year, the 33-year-old right hander resurfaced with the Blue Jays, struggling to a 7.67 ERA in six starts with the club. If he can channel some of the success from his early MLB career, Wang could very well end up in Cincinnati. In 2006 and 2007, he won a combined 38 games for the Yankees and put up a 3.67 ERA over that span. In 2012, FanGraphs' Alex Remington called Wang "the best Taiwanese player in MLB history."
