Dodgers sign pitcher Jamey Wright to 1-year deal

The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed free agent pitcher Jamey Wright to a one-year contract, according to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times.

Wright, who turns 39 on Christmas Eve, has played for 10 different teams during his 18-year career. This will be his second stint with Los Angeles; he made 66 appearances out of the Dodgers' bullpen in 2012 and posted a respectable 3.72 ERA. Last season, he again made 66 appearances, but this time for the Tampa Bay Rays; he finished with a 3.09 ERA in 70 innings while posting career-best rates of 8.4 strikeouts per nine innings and only 3.0 walks per nine. Overall, the right-hander has made 658 major league appearances (247 starts) and posted a 4.82 ERA (96 ERA+) in his career. The lone start that he made in 2013 was his first since 2007.

It is unclear exactly where Wright will fit into the Dodgers' bullpen, especially after the team signed former Indians closer Chris Perez earlier on Monday. He profiles best as a long-man, but the pen is already crowded with the likes of Perez, Kenley Jansen, Brian Wilson, J.P. Howell, Chris Withrow, Paco Rodriguez and Brandon League.
