Veteran starter Bartolo Colon is drawing interest from both the Mets and the Orioles, according to Sweeny Murti of WFAN and Roch Kubatko of MASN, respectively.

The Mets had a sit-down with Colon this morning, according to Murti. After signing Curtis Granderson for four years and $60 million, they appear to have shifted their focus to adding help to the starting rotation. The Orioles, having lost Scott Feldman to the Astros, are looking to fill in their rotation, as well.
The 40-year-old Colon seems like a logical fit for both the Mets and Orioles, as the old veteran won’t require a long-term deal. He signed a one-year deal with the A’s last winter and was a rotation anchor for them as they won the AL West. He made 30 starts, throwing 190⅓ innings with an impressive 2.65 ERA. He did serve a 50-game suspension for use of banned performance-enhancing drugs in 2012, but he bounced back in a big way and now will likely earn himself a decent raise over the $3 million he made last season with Oakland. He could end up commanding a salary north of $10 million on a one-year deal, according Jon Heyman.
That is still a relatively reasonable number though, which is part of what makes him so attractive on the market right now. Orioles GM Dan Duquette has already said they will not pursue high-priced starters, which likely rules out guys like Ubaldo Jimenez and Matt Garza. Colon could be seen a sensible, low-cost alternative.
