Puerto Rico vs. Dominican Republic final score: 0-2

Dominican starter Wandy Rodriguez gave his team six strong innings, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out two and earning the win. Indians catcher Carlos Santana gave the Dominican Republic their first run in the fifth on a solo home run and that was all they would need. They got another insurance run in the eighth when Francisco Pena drove in Erick Aybar with a two-out single. With Rays closer Fernando Rodney on the hill for the ninth, they had little need of the extra run. Rodney allowed for a little drama when he yielded a two out double to Mike Aviles but he bounced back to get a quick ground ball out and that ended the last Puerto Rican chance for a rally.

Puerto Rico got a solid performance from their starter, Orlando Roman, as well. He went five innings and allowed just the one run, which came on Santana's blast. Besides the home run, he allowed just one other hit and walked two while striking out four, while getting the tough loss. Puerto Rico mounted their only serious offensive threat in the third inning. In that frame, Carlos Rivera reached on a single and was pulled for pinch runner Irving Falu who stole second. Falu then reached third on a throwing error by Santana as he attempted to another steal. Jesus Feliciano got the ball on the ground to bring him in but Aybar, the Dominican shortstop, went home with the throw and got Falu at the plate. After that point, the Rodriguez and the Dominican bullpen kept the Puerto Rican offense in check.
