Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
12-Apr | CC Sabathia (1-1), 3.00 ERA, 3.36 FIP | Miguel Gonzalez (1-0), 2.84 ERA, 2.80 FIP | 7:05 pm ET | MASN, WWOR |
13-Apr | Hiroki Kuroda (1-1) 6.75 ERA, 4.16 FIP | Jason Hammel (1-1), 4.97 ERA, 4.77 FIP | 4:05 pm ET | MASN, YES |
14-Apr | Andy Pettitte (2-0), 1.20 ERA, 3.85 FIP | Wei Yin Chen (0-1), 3.75 ERA, 3.53 FIP | 8:05 pm ET | ESPN |
The three best Yankees starters face off against the three best Orioles starters with first place in the AL East on the line. The Yankees are coming off two offensive outbursts against the Cleveland Indians while looking for their fourth straight win, but consecutive rain outs might have cooled the Bombers' bats off. Baltimore's Chris Davis hasn't stopped hitting homers yet, and doesn't appear to be slowing down.
Hiroki Kuroda hasn't been himself since taking a comebacker off his fingertips in his first start of 2013, and Jason Hammel hasn't gotten off to the best start this season. Andy Pettitte continues to turn back the clock, pitching as well as he ever has. These two teams closely battled for first place down the stretch and into the ALDS last year, and could very well end up in the same situation again.

National League Series of the Weekend
Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
12-Apr | Ross Detwiler (0-0), 0.00 ERA, 4.30 FIP | Julio Teheran (0-0), 9.00 ERA, 8.13 FIP | 7:05 pm ET | FOX Sports-South, MASN2, MLBN |
13-Apr | Stephen Strasburg (1-1), 4.38 ERA, 2.81 FIP | Tim Hudson (1-0), 3.27 ERA, 3.86 FIP | 1:05 pm ET | FOX |
14-Apr | Gio Gonzalez (1-0), 0.84 ERA, 2.04 FIP | Paul Maholm (2-0), 0.00 ERA, 2.27 FIP | 1:35 pm ET | FOX Sports-South, MASN |
The NL East’s consensus top two teams collide for the first time this year, and a quick glance at the three games would seem to give the Nats the advantage in each game. Although neither is superb, Detwiler has been around the majors longer with far more success than Teheran. Strasburg and Hudson could be a tight battle of aces, and it’s awfully difficult to pick against the fireballing Strasburg in almost any matchup. The Braves lead the league in strikeouts so far at 9.3 per game, which plays right into Strasburg’s hand if he brings his strikeout form from last year.
Gonzalez versus Maholm is quite similar to Strasburg versus Hudson -- Atlanta's pitcher is certainly a good one who would be the favorite in most games, but Washington's is one of the best in baseball. While Justin Upton is sizzling right now for the Braves with a league-high six homers, his fellow outfielders are lagging behind; brother B.J. and Jason Heyward have combined to go just 5-for-57 thus far. It's easier for the Braves to mask these struggles when playing sub-par teams, but the pitching-rich Nats are unlikely to let a rookie catcher like Evan Gattis slug .826 against them.

Chicago White Sox at Cleveland Indians
Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
12-Apr | Justin Masterson (2-0), 0.69 ERA, 2.96 FIP | Jose Quintana (0-0), 11.25 ERA, 6.36 FIP | 7:05 pm ET | WGN, SportsTime Ohio |
13-Apr | Zach McAllister (0-1), 3.00 ERA, 2.11 FIP | Chris Sale (1-0), 1.84 ERA, 3.59 FIP | 4:05 pm ET | CSN, SportsTime Ohio |
14-Apr | Brett Myers (0-1), 12.19 ERA, 11.72 FIP | Jake Peavy (1-1) 5.56 ERA, 4.52 FIP | 1:05 pm ET | CSN, SportsTime Ohio |
The Indians’ pitchers are struggling; the White Sox have lost three games in a row. Which team can use the other as a springboard to getting back on track?
Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
12-Apr | Felix Doubront (0-0), 5.40 ERA, 3.31 FIP | Alex Cobb (1-0), 0.00 ERA, 2.70 FIP | 7:10 pm ET | SUN, NESN |
13-Apr | Jon Lester (2-0), 1.50 ERA, 1.70 FIP | David Price (0-1), 8.18 ERA, 6.75 FIP | 1:05 pm ET | FOX |
14-Apr | Clay Buchholz (2-0), 0.64 ERA, 3.61 FIP | Jeremy Hellickson (0-1), 6.35 ERA, 7.08 FIP | 1:35 pm ET | TBS, NESN |
The Rays’ offense is coming off a stretch they’d like to forget, while the Red Sox try to rebound from giving away a chance to win their first home series. This series has a bit of redemption on the line for both clubs.
Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
12-Apr | Luis Mendoza (0-0), 1.50 ERA, 2.28 | J.A. Happ (1-0), 0.00 ERA, 2.55 FIP | 8:10 pm ET | RSN, FOX Sports-Kansas City |
13-Apr | James Shields (1-1) 3.75 ERA, 1.86 FIP | R.A. Dickey (0-2), 8.44 ERA, 6.77 FIP | 7:10 pm ET | RSN, FOX Sports-Kansas City, MLBN |
14-Apr | Ervin Santana (1-1) 3.21 ERA, 4.40 FIP | Brandon Morrow (0-1), 5.59 ERA, 5.39 FIP | 2:10 pm ET | RSN, FOX Sports-Kansas City |
Fun with early season standings: the Kansas City Royals lead the division and the World Series favorite Blue Jays sit in last place in the AL East. There’s plenty of time for Toronto to turn it around, but maybe the Royals keep that from happening just a little longer.

Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
12-Apr | Bartolo Colon (1-0), 4.50 ERA, 4.61 FIP | Max Scherzer (1-0), 7.20 ERA, 4.71 FIP | 10:05 pm ET | FOX Sports-Detroit, Comcast SportsNet California |
13-Apr | Brett Anderson (1-1), 1.38 ERA, 2.03 FIP | Justin Verlander (1-1), 2.19 ERA, 3.36 FIP | 4:05 pm ET | FOX Sports-Detroit, Comcast SportsNet California |
14-Apr | Jarrod Parker (0-1), 6.48 ERA, 6.71 FIP | Anibal Sanchez (1-0), 1.50 ERA, 1.95 FIP | 4:05 pm ET | FOX Sports-Detroit, Comcast SportsNet California |
Oakland has stretched its winning streak to seven and leads the league in victories, but their bats will have to go up against the best the Tigers’ rotation has to offer. Max Scherzer’s strikeouts and Justin Verlander Verlanderness can put a damper on even the hottest team.
Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
12-Apr | Tommy Hanson (1-0), 4.50 ERA, 6.11 FIP | Bud Norris (1-1), 3.18 ERA, 4.88 FIP | 10:05 pm ET | CSN, FOX Sports-West |
13-Apr | Garrett Richards (0-0) 2.08 ERA, 4.50 FIP | Lucas Harrell (0-2), 7.84 ERA, 8.05 FIP | 9:05 pm ET | CSN, FOX Sports-West |
14-Apr | C.J. Wilson (0-0) 5.25 ERA, 5.20 FIP | Phillip Humber (0-2), 3.09 ERA, 3.45 FIP | 3:35 pm ET | CSN, FOX Sports-West |
The Angels having C.J. Wilson as their best pitcher until Jered Weaver's broken elbow heals can't be too comforting for a team that has scuffled a bit out of the gate, but taking on the Astros has a way of curing anything that ails a team. Unless you're the Mariners.
Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
12-Apr | Hisashi Iwakuma (1-0), 2.57 ERA, 4.49 FIP | Yu Darvish (2-0) 1.98 ERA, 1.30 FIP | 10:10 pm ET | KTXA, ROOT Sports |
13-Apr | Joe Saunders (1-1) 3.48 ERA, 3.02 FIP | Alexei Ogando (2-0), 0.77 ERA, 2.08 FIP | 9:10 pm ET | FOX Sports-Southwest, ROOT Sports |
14-Apr | Brandon Maurer (0-2), 16.20 ERA, 7.01 FIP | Nick Tepesch (1-0), 1.23 ERA, 2.98 FIP | 4:10 pm ET | FOX Sports-Southwest, ROOT Sports |
The Rangers managed to beat the M's in the first game of the series last night, even with Felix Hernandez pitching. Odds are the rest of the series' pitching will feel downhill for Texas, but they won't have to face Michael Morse, who is out with a fractured pinkie finger.

Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
12-Apr | Jon Niese (1-0), 2.13 ERA, 3.92 FIP | Vance Worley (0-1), 5.73 ERA, 2.77 FIP | 8:10 pm ET | SNY, FOX Sports- North |
13-Apr | Matt Harvey (2-0), 0.64 ERA, 1.28 FIP | Scott Diamond (2013 debut) | 4:10 pm ET | SNY, FOX Sports- North |
14-Apr | Dillon Gee (0-2), 7.71 ERA, 7.31 FIP | Kevin Correia (0-1), 3.14 ERA, 3.13 FIP | 2:10 pm ET | WPIX, FOX Sports- North |
This series could have been so much more enticing as Johan Santana's homecoming in his first trip back to the Twin Cities since the '08 trade. At least the impressive Matt Harvey will be around to make it interesting on Saturday.

Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
12-Apr | Carlos Villanueva (0-0), 1.35 ERA, 4.63 FIP | Matt Cain (0-1), 8.38 ERA, 2.31 FIP | 2:20 pm ET | CSBA, CSN |
13-Apr | Jeff Samardzija (1-1), 2.63 ERA, 1.23 FIP | Madison Bumgarner (2-0), 1.32 ERA, 3.57 FIP | 1:05 pm ET | FOX |
14-Apr | Edwin Jackson (0-2), 5.73 ERA, 2.77 FIP | Tim Lincecum (1-0), 4.91 ERA, 5.32 FIP | 2:20 pm ET | CSBA, CSN |
Both Cain and Lincecum began the season poorly, and even though they get to face the Cubs, they must do so at hitter-friendly Wrigley. Young studs Samardzija and Bumgarner make the middle game a must-watch.
Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
12-Apr | A.J. Burnett (0-2), 3.27 ERA, 2.50 FIP | Mike Leake (0-0), 6.00 ERA, 8.13 FIP | 7:05 pm ET | FOX Sports- Ohio, ROOT Sports |
13-Apr | Jeff Locke (0-1), 6.00 ERA, 2.63 FIP | Johnny Cueto (1-0), 2.77 ERA, 3.98 FIP | 7:05 pm ET | FOX Sports- Ohio, ROOT Sports, MLBN |
14-Apr | TBA | Mat Latos (0-0), 2.84 ERA, 3.61 FIP | 1:35 pm ET | FOX Sports- Ohio, ROOT Sports |
The Buccos might take the first of this series since Leake has not pitched well, but their struggling offense appears unlikely to do much of anything against Cueto and Latos. Andrew McCutchen’s .233 start hasn’t helped, either.

Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
12-Apr | Ricky Nolasco (0-1), 3.97 ERA, 5.34 FIP | John Lannan (0-0), 3.86 ERA, 2.13 FIP | 7:10 pm ET | TCN, FOX Sports- Florida |
13-Apr | Jose Fernandez (0-0), 1.80 ERA ,0.53 FIP | Cole Hamels (0-2), 10.97 ERA, 8.10 FIP | 7:10 pm ET | CSN, FOX Sports- Florida |
14-Apr | Kevin Slowey (0-2), 2.19 ERA, 5.08 FIP | Roy Halladay (0-2), 14.73 ERA, 8.04 FIP | 1:10 pm ET | WB17, FOX Sports- Florida |
Phillies fan: The time to be gravely concerned about Halladay and Hamels will come if the meek Marlins use them as punching bag as well. Meanwhile, Fernandez gets to test his mettle against a better-hitting club than the Mets.
Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
12-Apr | Shelby Miller (1-0), 3.38 ERA, 6.32 FIP | Kyle Lohse (0-0), 1.50 ERA, 1.47 FIP | 8:15 pm ET | FOX Sports-Wisconsin, FOX Sports-Midwest |
13-Apr | Adam Wainwright (1-1), 3.46 ERA, 1.29 FIP | Yovani Gallardo (0-0), 5.73 ERA, 5.22 FIP | 4:15 pm ET | FOX Sports-Wisconsin, FOX Sports-Midwest |
14-Apr | Jaime Garcia (1-0), 2.92 ERA, 4.67 FIP | Marco Estrada (1-0), 4.50 ERA, 4.30 FIP | 2:15 pm ET | FOX Sports-Wisconsin, FOX Sports-Midwest, MLB.tv (free) |
Lohse will be out for revenge in his return to St. Louis, but the Cardinals present a better team than the Brew Crew, who could be missing Ryan Braun again. Matt Carpenter has been terrific for the Cards so far at .400/.462/.629 in nine games.
Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
12-Apr | Patrick Corbin (1-0), 3.00 ERA, 2.97 FIP | Clayton Kershaw (2-0), 0.00 ERA, 1.32 FIP | 9:40 pm ET | PRIME, FOX Sports-Arizona |
13-Apr | Ian Kennedy (1-0), 4.15 ERA, 3.21 FIP | Hyun-Jin Ryu (1-1), 2.13 ERA, 2.90 FIP | 8:10 pm ET | KCAL, FOX Sports-Arizona |
14-Apr | Trevor Cahill (0-2), 5.91 ERA, 3.70 FIP | Josh Beckett (0-1), 4.91 ERA, 6.95 FIP | 4:10 pm ET | PRIME, FOX Sports-Arizona |
Kershaw has just been flat-out dominant. The D’backs are slugging .455 as a team with five hitters surpassing a 900 OPS, so something will have to give. They should do much better facing Ryu and Beckett, at least.
Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
12-Apr | Tyson Ross (0-1), 4.50 ERA, 5.13 FIP | Jon Garland (1-0), 3.00 ERA, 3.47 FIP | 10:10 pm ET | ROOT Sports, FOX Sports-San Diego |
13-Apr | Edinson Volquez (0-2), 10.00 ERA, 4.80 FIP | Jhoulys Chacin (1-0), 1.35 ERA, 3.58 FIP | 8:40 pm ET | ROOT Sports, FOX Sports-San Diego MLB.tv (free) |
14-Apr | Clayton Richard (0-1), 8.68 ERA, 9.46 FIP | Jorge de la Rosa (0-1), 6.10 ERA, 5.65 FIP | 4:10 pm ET | ROOT Sports, FOX Sports-San Diego |
Few of the players involved in this series are well-known aside from Troy Tulowitski and Carlos Gonzalez, but keep an eye on San Diego's Chris Denorfia and Nick Hundley as well as Colorado's Wilin Rosario and Dexter Fowler. All four have notched solid over.400 wOBAs so far.
