Felix Hernandez (1-2), 3.05 ERA, 3.52 FIP

Max Scherzer (1-0), 4.09 ERA, 2.08 FIP

10:10 pm ET

FOX Sports-Detroit, ROOT Sports

These two teams played a tight game last night that was only decided when the Mariners’ bullpen got a little too wild. Today, fans at Safeco Field get a marquee pitching match-up, as King Felix faces Scherzer, who has made strides in the past year to become more than a mid-rotation arm.

While Hernandez is never a pleasant sight for hitters on the mound, both Torii Hunter and Miguel Cabrera have faced him many times with success: a combined .348 average in 99 plate appearances (74 by Hunter). The game seems to boil down to this big question -- what's more likely, the powerful Tiger offense scoring off Felix, or the meek Mariner offense scoring off Scherzer?

17-Apr

A.J. Burnett (0-2), 3.71 ERA, 3.02 FIP

Shelby Miller (2-0), 1.46 ERA, 3.41 FIP

7:05 pm ET

FOX Sports-Midwest, ROOT Sports

After a six-game cup of coffee last year, Miller has kicked off his first season as a full-time major league starter with consecutive victories, and he opened some eyes with his last start. Miller blanked the Brew Crew for seven innings on just one hit and struck out eight Brewers to boot. Miller out-dueled a pair of good pitchers in Ryan Vogelsong and Kyle Lohse; now the veteran Burnett will try to beat the rookie.

The Bucs were disappointed to have a 4-2 lead last night washed out by the rain -- their lineup nearly batted around in the first off Jake Westbrook, but it will count for naught. Miller and the Cards will still need to keep a close eye on Bucs leadoff hitter Starling Marte, who had three hits Monday to bring his average to .370. Can Marte be the proper complement to Andrew McCutchen that the Bucs have been looking for?

Bartolo Colon (1-0), 4.15 ERA, 4.01 FIP

Bud Norris (2-1), 1.96 ERA, 4.12 FIP

3:35 pm ET

CSH

Bud Norris looks to improve his trade stock as the Astros take on the A’s in an oddly untelevised game for Oakland markets. That’s a shame for fans of the team with the AL’s best record (11-4).

Chris Tillman (0-0), 7.00 ERA, 4.53 FIP

Matt Moore (2-0), 0.00 ERA, 2.91 FIP

7:05 pm ET

SUN Sports, MASN, MLB.tv (free)

Moore has allowed just three hits with 13 strikeouts in 11-1/3 innings thus far, but he walked six in only 5-1/3 innings during his last start in Texas. He has to have better control, or the Orioles' more patient hitters like leadoff hitter Nate McLouth will simply wait him out.

Boston Red Sox at Cleveland Indians

Time

Where

17-Apr

Justin Masterson (3-0), 0.41 ERA, 2.49 FIP

Alfredo Aceves (0-0), 6.75 ERA, 6.94 FIP

7:05 pm ET

NESN, SportsTime Ohio

Masterson carries a scoreless streak of 19 innings into a start against his old team, but the Red Sox will likely give him more of a challenge than the league’s worst two offenses did.

Chicago White Sox at Toronto Blue Jays

Day

Visit. SP

Time

Where

17-Apr

J.A. Happ (2-0), 3.48 ERA, 2.89 FIP

Jose Quintana (0-0), 4.09 ERA, 3.26 FIP

7:07 pm ET

CSN+, RSN

Fresh off a dominant seven-inning, one-hit whitewash of the Indians, Quintana will try to help the ChiSox ride the momentum of their ninth-inning victory last night to a second straight win. Chicago will certainly be hoping for more out of Adam Dunn, who looks more like the terrible 2011 version in 13 games so far.

Los Angeles Angels at Minnesota Twins

Day

Time

Where

17-Apr

Vance Worley (0-2), 10.50 ERA, 3.08 FIP

Tommy Hanson (1-1), 6.55 ERA, 6.08 FIP

8:10 pm ET

FOX Sports-West, FOX Sports-North

Though it's early, the Halos are tied with the Astros for the worst record in the American League. The Twins aren't a good team, but Hanson isn't exactly a world-beater, either. The Angels need Josh Hamilton to turn it around soon, or it will get ugly in Anaheim.

Mike Minor (2-0), 0.69 ERA, 2.62 FIP

Wade Davis (1-0), 4.00 ERA, 5.53 FIP

12:10 pm ET

FOX Sports-South, MLBN

In the earliest game of the day, the Braves are shooting for their best start to a season in nearly 20 years. With yet another pitching matchup in their favor and Justin Upton on fire, it would be tough to bet against them.

New York Yankees at Arizona Diamondbacks

17-Apr

CC Sabathia (2-1), 2.25 ERA, 2.33 FIP

Wade Miley (2-0), 2.13 ERA, 3.00 FIP

7:05 pm ET

MY9, FOX Sports-Arizona

It will be a battle of unknown aces in New York, as neither team has faced the opposing pitcher all that much. Will Miley’s National League success work against the Yanks?

Texas Rangers at Chicago Cubs

17-Apr

Carlos Villanueva (0-0), 0.64 ERA, 3.58 FIP

Justin Grimm (0-0), 4.50 ERA, 7.58 FIP

8:05 pm ET

FOX Sports-Southwest, WGN

A two-run bomb from Adrian Beltre guided the Rangers to victory last night in Chicago, and they're going to need such offense to support the rookie Grimm. Since the Cubs' offense is struggling though, Grimm could surprise with a stellar outing.

Mike Leake (0-0), 6.75 ERA, 6.00 FIP

John Lannan (0-0), 2.77 ERA, 2.70 FIP

5:30 pm ET (susp. game) 7:10 pm ET

TCN, ESPN2, FOX Sports-Ohio

The two teams pick up their suspended scoreless game in the bottom of the ninth at 5:30, and assuming it doesn’t last too long, they will immediately regroup for their originally scheduled game at 7:10. Dusty Baker and Charlie Manuel’s bullpen strategies for this unusual day will be worth tracking.

Ross Detwiler (0-0), 0.69 ERA, 4.31 FIP

7:10 pm ET

FOX Sports-Florida, MASN2

Hey, the Marlins won a game last night! Good for them. Their reward is getting to face a pitcher who limited the seemingly unbeatable Braves to four hits and one run in his last start.

Kyle Lohse (0-1), 2.08 ERA, 3.01 FIP

Ryan Vogelsong (1-1), 7.15 ERA, 3.08 FIP

8:10 pm ET

CSBA, FOX Sports-Wisconsin

It is utterly bizarre that the Giants have a winning record while the trio of Vogelsong, Matt Cain, and Tim Lincecum have combined for a 6.14 ERA. Baseball!

Jon Garland (1-0), 3.75 ERA, 3.92 FIP

Jeremy Hefner (0-2), 6.00 ERA, 7.97 FIP

8:40 pm ET

SNY, ROOT Sports

After yesterday’s calamitous second game of the doubleheader went into extra innings, Mets beat writer Marc Carig lost his mind. Say a prayer for his sanity and hope this unenticing pitching matchup surprises you.

San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers

17-Apr

Clayton Kershaw (2-1), 1.16 ERA, 1.45 FIP

Tyson Ross (0-1), 4.82 ERA, 4.58 FIP

10:10 pm ET

FOX Sports- San Diego, KCAL

Dodgers starters are dropping like flies as Zack Greinke's replacement, Chris Capuano, might have to join him on the Disabled List with a calf injury. That just puts even more pressure on Kershaw to win every single start; the Dodgers can't afford to lose Kershaw starts right now.
