MLB Thursday viewing guide: Game times, TV schedules
A look at the day’s MLB games, as well as where and when you can find them.

Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
18-Apr | R.A. Dickey (1-2), 5.82 ERA, 5.44 FIP | Chris Sale (1-1), 5.21 ERA, 5.14 FIP | CSN, RSN, MLB.tv (free) |
Neither of these aces has been on their game so far in 2013, but they’ve pitched remarkably similar to one another. Which ace can come out on top in this one, and start to get back on track? The White Sox took the first two games in the series, and are looking for the sweep today.
On paper, the Blue Jays should have been running away from the rest of the division, but that’s why they play the games. If they are going to get going, R.A. Dickey is going to need to play a big part in that, and he can start with today.

National League Game of the Day
Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
18-Apr | Cole Hamels (0-2), 7.56 ERA, 6.20 FIP | Adam Wainwright (2-1), 2.05 ERA, 0.90 FIP | 7:05 pm ET | FOX Sports-Midwest, TCN, MLB Network |
Despite Hamels’s statistics right now, this battle of aces is about as good as it gets for pitching matchups. Hamels recovered from his disappointing first two starts to throw six innings of one-run ball against the Marlins his last time out. He’s pitched well against the Cardinals in the past (3.27 ERA in nine starts), and the Phils will need a good outing from him if they want to shake off their recent sweep at the hands of the Reds.
Wainwright has has yet to walk a single batter in 22 innings this year, a streak that stretches to 26 going back to 2012. He had a rough first start when Arizona knocked him around for 11 hits in six innings, but dominated the Giants and Brewers in subsequent appearances. The Phillies haven’t been a problem before -- Wainwright owns a 2.20 ERA in 49 innings against them.

Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
18-Apr | Justin Verlander (2-1), 1.96 ERA, 3.08 FIP | Hisashi Iwakuma (2-0), 2.18 ERA, 4.20 FIP | 3:40 pm ET | FOX Sports-Detroit, ROOT Sports |
The Tigers are rolling, and they get the luxury of sending their ace to the mound against a Mariners team that has lost seven of their last ten games.
Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
18-Apr | Miguel Gonzalez (1-1) 2.92 ERA, 3.73 FIP | David Price (0-1), 5.82 ERA, 5.61 FIP | 7:05 pm ET | SUN, MASN |
The Rays managed to end their losing streak last night, but David Price has not been himself so far in 2013. If he has the same success against the O's that Matt Moore had yesterday, Tampa Bay might be able to start a different kind of streak.
Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
18-Apr | Zach McAllister (1-1), 2.19 ERA, 1.87 FIP | Jon Lester (2-0), 1.42 ERA, 1.82 FIP | 7:05 pm ET | NESN, SportsTime Ohio |
Jon Lester has been tremendous this season, his offense is scoring runs, and the Indians are struggling. The possibility for consecutive series sweeps exists for the Sox today.

Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
18-Apr | Carlos Villanueva (0-0), 0.64 ERA, 3.58 FIP | Alexi Ogando (2-0), 1.08 ERA, 1.94 FIP | 2:20 pm ET | FOX Sports-Southwest, WGN, MLB Network |
The rain out last night allowed the Rangers to skip Justin Grimm and pitch Ogando instead, whose terrific start to the season has been overshadowed by teammate Yu Darvish. Villanueva could surprise Texas, though; he's already shut down two 2012 playoff teams so far.
Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
18-Apr | Phil Hughes (0-2), 10.29 ERA, 8.37 FIP | Patrick Corbin (2-0), 1.50 ERA, 3.33 FIP | 7:05 pm ET | FOX Sports-Arizona, YES Network |
The late Yankees rally against Wade Miley and the Arizona bullpen ensured a series victory. Had they failed, though, they would have been looking at a mismatch today given how much Hughes struggled in his first two starts.

Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
18-Apr | Yovani Gallardo (0-1), 6.61 ERA, 4.31 FIP | Matt Cain (0-1), 5.94 ERA, 3.80 FIP | 1:10 pm ET | FOX Sports-Wisconsin, CSBA, MLB Network |
Two days after his DUI arrest, Gallardo is back out on the mound to face the Giants.
Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
18-Apr | Jon Garland (1-0), 3.75 ERA, 3.92 FIP | Jon Niese (2-0), 3.57 ERA, 4.39 FIP | 3:10 pm ET | SNY |
It's been a weird week for these two teams, who played an ugly doubleheader Tuesday and were snowed out Monday and Wednesday. Instead of Jeremy Hefner, the Mets get to pitch the superior Niese against Garland now thanks to the Snow Miser.
Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
18-Apr | Jeff Locke (1-1), 4.09 ERA, 5.36 FIP | Julio Teheran (0-0), 7.36 ERA, 6.27 FIP | 7:05 pm ET | SportSouth, ROOT Sports |
It’s amazing that the Braves’ 10-game winning streak survived two poor Teheran starts. Fresh off one-hitting the Cardinals, the Bucs hope to give Atlanta its first losing streak of the season by prolonging Teheran’s struggles.
Day | Home SP | Visit. SP | Time | Where |
18-Apr | Tony Cingrani (2013 debut) | Jose Fernandez (0-0), 0.82 ERA, 1.54 FIP | 7:10 pm ET | FOX Sports-Florida, FOX Sports-Ohio, MLB Network |
Cingrani is starting his first big-league game in place of Johnny Cueto, and he could not hand-pick a more favorable team to oppose. In just his third career game, Fernandez is the more experienced starter. That did not take long.
