MLB Weekend Betting Preview

Divisional matchups dot the weekend baseball betting landscape with odds on the Yankees vs Blue Jays and Mets vs Phillies.

Jim McIsaac

The first month of the MLB season nears an end with a weekend schedule that includes three series matching playoff teams from a season ago.

Here’s a quick look at some of the better hardball battles on this weekend’s MLB betting boards. Early Friday MLB consensus betting had Kansas City over Cleveland as the most lopsided game at 72%.

In one of those clashes of playoff teams from last season the NL Central-champion Reds and NL East-champion Nationals continue a four-game series in DC. The Nats took Thursday’s series opener 8-1.

In the AL East the pre-season favorites to win the division, the Blue Jays, continue a four-game series with the banged-up Yankees in the Bronx. New York took the opener of this series Thursday night 5-3.

In Queens, the Mets and Phillies meet for a three-game NL East divisional series at Citi Field.

In the NL Central, first place takes on second place as the Cardinals host the Pirates for three games at Busch Stadium.

Out in the NL West first-place Colorado continues a four-game series at second-place Arizona. The Diamondbacks took the opener of this series Thursday night 3-2.

In another bash between teams that made the playoffs last year the A’s and Orioles continue a four-game series in Oakland. Baltimore won this series opener Thursday night 10-2.

Down in LA, the Brewers, who just had a nine-game winning streak snapped, visit the Dodgers for three games.

And in the third match-up of playoff teams from a year ago the NL East-leading Braves visit the AL Central-champion Tigers for a three-game set.

As of Friday morning the Mets, who just dropped two of three games to the Dodgers, were favored by -130 to win their series with the Phillies, who just lost three games in a row to Pittsburgh.

Those Pirates, who sit just a half-game out of first place in the NL Central, were getting +190 to win their series with division-leading St. Louis.

The Dodgers, who just took two of three games from the Mets in New York, were favored by -185 to win their series with Milwaukee.

And the Tigers, who just lost a Justin Verlander start Thursday to Kansas City, were favored by -135 to win their series with Atlanta.
