Are You Not Entertained, Washington?

The Nats may talk tough, but the Braves keep beating them.

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

Two weeks ago, Washington starter Stephen Strasburg wasn’t terribly impressed after the his Nats got swept by the Braves, “Honestly, I think our lineup’s better,” he said. “They’re hot right now. It’s early and it’s not about how many wins you necessarily finish up with in April, it’s how many you have at the end of the year.”
Second baseman Danny Espinosa agreed, claiming the Nationals weren’t intimidated at all, ”“They’re good, I don’t think they’re better than us. They’re a good ballclub, they have talent. They’re hot right now, they only lost one game, but they’re hot. It all evens out.”
Well, the Braves just got done beating the Strasburg and Espinosa-led Nats again, 3-2. Despite getting 10 hits in less than six innings against Atlanta starter Julio Teheran, they squandered opportunity after opportunity to score. Denard Span got picked off of first (long a weakness for him) by Teheran and Chad Tracy got picked off at second by Gerald Laird (inexcusable). The Braves turned two double plays, and Washington went 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position.
The Nats are now 0-4 versus the Braves in 2013, and have lost their last eight meetings. Atlanta is 16-9, while Bryce Harper and company fall back to .500. I wonder if they’re impressed yet.
