You expected the Marlins and Astros to be terrible, so you didn’t bet on them in April. But the Blue Jays and Angels? How did they come to be the worst bets in baseball? And will that trend continue in May?

Toronto stumbled to a 10-17 record in April and showed a loss of $975 for a bettor who backed them with $100 every game.
The Angels were even worse at 9-17 and $1100 in losses so far, according to the baseball betting standings at OddsShark.com.
Only the Houston Astros and Miami Marlins - consensus picks as the worst teams in baseball - had more losses than the Blue Jays and Angels.
Maybe things will change for those teams starting Wednesday night. And for those who like to bet on baseball.
In in the NL East, the first-place Braves go for a 10th-striaght victory over the struggling Nationals in Atlanta. The Braves have taken the first two games of this four-game set at Turner Field by scores of 3-2 and 8-1, and now lead the NL East by 4.5 games over Washington, which has lost seven of its last 10 games to slip below .500 for the season.
Out in the NL West the 15-12 Giants shoot for a sweep of the 15-12 Diamondbacks in Phoenix, while the first-place Rockies and fourth-place Dodgers play a series rubber match at Chavez Ravine. Heading into Wednesday’s play Colorado leads that division by one game over Arizona and San Francisco, with LA sitting 2.5 games back.
And up in Seattle the 16-11 Orioles and 12-17 Mariners play the final game of their series at Safeco Field, after splitting the first two games.
In early betting for Wednesday’s games the Braves with Paul Maholm were favored by -115 over the Nats with Jordan Zimmerman; the Diamondbacks with Brandon McCarthy were chalked at -115 over San Francisco with Tim Lincecum; LA with Josh Beckett was favored by -140 over Colorado with Juan Nicasio; and the O’s with Wei-Yin Chen were favored by -135 over the M’s with newcomer Aaron Harang.
Looking ahead to Thursday the Braves and Nationals complete their four-game series in the ATL; the Cardinals and Brewers, now running 1-2 in the NL Central, begin a big four-game series at Miller Park; and Baltimore continues its West Coast road trip with the opener of a four-game series with the Angels in Anaheim.
