Chris Sale loses perfect game, no-hitter in 7th inning vs. Angels

Chris Sale’s perfect game/no-hit bid was broken up in the 7th inning by last year’s Rookie of the Year.

USA TODAY Sports

Chicago White Sox pitcher Chris Sale had a perfect game heading into the seventh inning against the Los Angeles Angels, but Mike Trout came up with a single up the middle to ruin his night. Now Sale is simply looking for a win on Sunday night, as the White Sox and Angels are locked in a scoreless tie heading into the eighth.

Sale’s changeup helped him dominate from the mound through most of the game. He is still sitting on a one-hitter after seven innings and 80 pitches. He doesn’t have any offensive support yet, though. His team ranks dead last in the league in runs scored.

The last White Sox pitcher to record a perfect game was Philip Humber, as he shut down all 27 batters from the Seattle Mariners early last season. The last no-hitter against the Angels dates back to 1999, when Eric Milton was lights-out for the Twins on Sept. 11. They haven't seen a perfect game since Kenny Rogers accomplished the feat in 1994.

Sale could have recorded the 24th perfect game in MLB history. Three White Sox pitchers, including Humber, are on that list.
