Mike Trout crushes Ervin Santana for huge homer

Trout’s blast is one of the best of the season, and the opposing center fielder knows it.

The Angels hit four home runs against former teammate and current Kansas City Royals starter Ervin Santana on Thursday, but none of them could stand up to the first inning blast from Mike Trout:

Dead center, and 463 feet -- according to Hit Tracker Online, that’s the third-longest shot of the week, and the 12th-longest of the entire season. The center fielder might not be aware of the exact distance, but he sure knows it is gone well before it lands.

You can see, too, that this thing was very nearly as dead center as you can get it:

Of course, you could see some dots on an (admittedly nifty) chart, or you could see Trout’s blast from the camera behind home plate take that same path:

I guess Mike Trout's week is going okay, given he's hit this blast, became the youngest American League player ever to hit for the cycle, nearly has an OPS+ matching his epic 2012 campaign, and his Angels have won five in a row.

Don't worry, though: Miguel Cabrera has a 2151 OPS with six homers in the last week, so last year's debate is sure to spill into this season, too!* Hooray for Twitter wars!

*I am not disparaging Miguel Cabrera, because the dude can flat-out rake. Why can’t we just love them both?
