Angels score two runs on strikeout because baseball

Sometimes in baseball even outs aren’t enough.

Stephen Dunn

The Dodgers and Angels kicked off an interleague series on Monday, one where Zack Greinke basically owned Mark Trumbo in a short, three-pitch at-bat that ended in a strikeout. Well, ended probably isn't the right word to describe the play, as the pitch got away from catcher Ramon Hernandez, and Trumbo received results he did not deserve given his terrible decision to swing:

Trumbo-k-and-run

One run scores, but wait, there’s more! Not content to deflect a baseball behind him that causes a run to score, Hernandez lets his easy throw to first to record Trumbo’s out officially sail as well:

Hernandez-e-and-run

Albert Pujols would come around to score, giving the Angels an early two-run lead. It wouldn't last, though: despite these mishaps, the Dodgers would win 8-7, snapping the Angels eight-game win streak in the process.
