New York Yankees outfielder Curtis Granderson underwent a minor operation Wednesday morning to put a pin in the knuckle of his fractured pinkie finger, reports Meredith Merekovits of the YES Network.

The procedure was very similar to the one that catcher Francisco Cervelli had done last month. According to GM Brian Cashman, the surgery is not expected to affect his recovery timetable -- which is tentatively set at a minimum of four weeks -- but given how things have gone for Granderson so far this year, I wouldn't count it out.

Boston's young phenom is back with the big-league squad. Granderson has fractured his hand twice this season, both coming as a result of a hit-by-pitch. The first, more severe break occurred in his very first at-bat of spring training, sidelining him through mid-May. The second came last Friday in just his eighth game back from the disabled list, breaking his left pinkie finger.
Vernon Wells has filled in as the Yankees' left fielder in Granderson's prolonged absence. He played very well in April, but has reverted back towards his disappointing norms over the last several weeks. New York has yet to really feel the negative effect of Granderson's time on the sideline, but could very quickly if Wells continues to stumble.
