The New York Mets have placed shortstop Ruben Tejada on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right quad, the team has announced.
Ruben Tejada injury: Mets SS placed on DL with quad strain
The shortstop will sit out the next couple weeks, and could be out of a job by the time he heals up.

More Mets: David Wright, All-Time Great?
Tejada suffered the injury in the bottom of the ninth Wednesday, coming up lame after fielding a ground ball off the bat of Yankees infielder David Adams.
The injury effectively allows the Mets to delay their decision by a couple weeks of whether or not to demote Tejada, whose struggles at the plate this year are almost of Ike Davis proportions. The team was thought to be on the verge of sending him down to Las Vegas, so the timing of the injury is rather fortuitous.
Tejada was never meant to light the world on fire with his bat, but a line of .209/.267/.262 isn’t going to cut it, no matter how much value he may theoretically add with the glove (he’s saved -7 runs so far this year).
Omar Quintanilla is on his way up from Triple-A to spell Tejada, and could work his way into the starting shortstop gig if he plays well enough over the next few weeks. The move is deja vu all over again for Quintanilla, who played the same stopgap role last year when Tejada went down with a similar quad injury.
