Cubs 8, White Sox 3: As far as days of playing baseball go, it's harder to have a better experience than hitting a grand slam while simultaneously pitching six innings of two-run ball, and Travis Wood did that today. Good job, good effort.
Who else is in that group? Stephen Strasburg, Justin Verlander, and... Not really anyone else. I'm going to call this the Roy Halladay Echelon, and I think it sounds cool. Too bad King Felix doesn't throw upper-90s, that wouldn't be fair.
Giants 5, Athletics 2: Barry Zito had five strikeouts and six walks. He was able to soldier through this and pitch six innings while only allowing one run. Pablo Sandoval drove in a couple of runs and had a multi-hit game, but really nothing you just heard is out of the ordinary. Can't predict ball.
Red Sox 9, Phillies 2: Franklin Morales allowed two runs in five innings in this one, and the Red Sox lineup gave him more than enough support. Jonny Gomes and David Ortiz each provided home runs.
Indians 7, Reds 1: Indians scored all seven runs in the fourth inning of this one. Scott Kazmir continues to work his weird magic and throws seven innings, striking out five, and allowing one run.
Pirates 1, Tigers 0: If this seems familiar, it's because the Pirates beat the Tigers 1-0 earlier in the week. A walk-off from Russell Martin was in order here, and the Pirates pitching staff was all kinds of good in this game.
Mets 3, Yankees 1: Dillon Gee was fantastic for the Mets in this one, striking out 12 batters over seven innings of work. The Mets finished off their four-game sweep of the Yankees this week, which is sure to stir things up in the Bronx.
Orioles 2, Nationals 0: Freddy Garcia struck out six and allowed three hits in eight innings of shutout ball tonight. Manny Machado was 2-3, and also was generally awesome.
Rays 5, Marlins 2: Alex Colome was quite good in his Major League debut, striking out seven batters in 5 2/3 innings of work. Matt Joyce and James Loney each added a home run to this one.
Braves 11, Blue Jays 3: Mike Minor cruised through seven innings and the Braves gave him 11 runs to work with. Freddie Freeman hit his fourth home run of the year.
Twins 8, Brewers 6: The Brewers continue to drop, with Kyle Lohse struggling in this one. Rather unnerving for them to think that they don't even have a first-round pick in this year's draft.
Astros 7, Rockies 5: Matt Dominguez hit his eighth home run of the season, and he has been a bit of a bright spot. If he can hit for some pop and provide good defense, he is an asset moving forwards.
Angels 3, Dodgers 2: Mike Scioscia brought in Josh Hamilton to replace Peter Bourjos late in the game for defense in this one. Yeah I don't know either. The Dodgers decided to take the lulz for themselves, however:
