Heading into this Major League Baseball season the idea of an all-Los Angeles World Series didn’t seem that far-fetched.

The Angels and Dodgers were both considered World series contenders in April, but both has struggled so mightily that the dream of an all-LA baseball championship series has turned into a nightmare.

Both the Dodgers and Angels, with those high-priced lineups, were expected to contend not just for playoff spots, but for their respective pennants.
But things don’t always work out like you’d think, and at the moment the possibility of a Freeway Series is a real longshot, considering the two LA-area teams are a combined 16 games under .500. [ MLB odds on every game here at SBNation.com ]
And bettors who have been backing the Dodgers and Angels regularly this year have really taken a hit. Tuesday night the Halos lost in Houston as -165 favorites, while the Blue Crew lost at home to Arizona as -120 chalk.
So on the season the Angels have lost a Major League-worst $1,450, based on those theoretical $100 wagers on each game, while the Dodgers are down $1,130, second-most in all of baseball betting.
Real-world, the Dodgers are in last place in the NL West, six games out of first place, while the Angels are in fourth place in the AL West, 8.5 games from the division lead.
Wednesday the Angels play the second game of a three-game inter-league series with the Astros, while the Dodgers will try to avoid getting swept at home by the Diamondbacks.
As of Wednesday morning, the Angels with Joe Blanton were listed as -140 road favorites over Houston with Bud Norris, while the Dodgers with Clay Kershaw were chalked at -175 over Arizona with Wade Miley.
Also, on the MLB futures market, some bookmakers were offering odds of upwards of 125/1 on an Angels-Dodgers World Series match-up.
Elsewhere on Wednesday’s MLB betting board, Cleveland with Justin Masterson was a -115 favorite as it looked to go up 3-0 in its four-game series at home over Oakland; Baltimore, after taking the opener of a three-game series from Kansas City Tuesday night, was favored by -140 with Chris Tillman over the Royals with Luis Mendoza; Detroit with Anibal Sanchez was a -110 road favorite for a postponed series opener in Washington with Jordan Zimmerman; and Colorado, after taking the opener of a three-game series at home over the Yankees Tuesday night, was a -130 favorite with Juan Nicasio over New York with David Phelps.
Looking forward to Thursday the Phillies and Diamondbacks begin a four-game series in Phoenix; and the Braves and Giants begin a four-game series out by McCovey Cove.
