It wasn’t a pretty day for college baseball’s premier conference, as the SEC went 4-5 Friday in the tournament’s opening day. All five of the road SEC teams fell (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Texas A&M, Ole Miss), and now some key clubs face elimination on Day 2. Arkansas came into the weekend riding a hot streak and had plenty of motivation after a host snub, but looked flat in a 4-1 loss to Bryant. Now their anemic offense will have to face a Wichita State team that put up nine runs in a losing effort against Kansas State on Friday. Ole Miss looks to recover from its debacle against William & Mary with a win over Binghampton, but will have to figure out how to stretch their rotation to cover four more games if they want to make it to the next round.

Outside the SEC, several games headline Saturday’s action, including North Carolina and Towson at 6 p.m. ET. Towson kept its magical season going Friday with an upset over Florida Atlantic, but now have to face off against the top-seeded Tar Heels. If there were ever a David vs. Goliath matchup, this is it. Also keep an eye on Louisiana-Lafayette and Jackson State at 3 p.m. in the Baton Rouge loser’s bracket. Lafayette is most likely the only team in the regional with the offensive firepower to take down LSU, but they may not get the chance after losing on the first day. Meanwhile, lightly regarded Jackson State put up a valiant effort against the Tigers, scoring five unanswered runs late in Friday’s game to sweat the host team.
