Brandon Morrow injury: Blue Jays SP lands on DL with right forearm strain

Another injury for the Blue Jays, and this time it’s Brandon Morrow.

Abelimages

Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Brandon Morrow was placed on the disabled list due to a right forearm strain. The team announced the move on Twitter.

The Blue Jays recalled Ramon Ortiz from Triple-A Buffalo to take Morrow's spot in the rotation. Ortiz has made a few starts for Toronto this season, so his call-up isn't a surprise. Ortiz is 1-2 with a 5.01 ERA in six appearances, including three starts.

Morrow, who was injured on Tuesday, was lacking velocity in his start and was also generally ineffective.

Morrow's injury is the latest in a list of things which have gone wrong for the Blue Jays this season, a team that began the season with high hopes. The Blue Jays didn't have incredible depth coming into the season, so the number of injuries have decimated them more than it would to a team like the Cardinals or Rays.

Morrow has a 5.63 ERA in 54 1/3 innings this season, so a trip to the DL could be a good chance for him to reboot and come back stronger. Forearm injuries are often a sign of other ailments in the elbow, so that will be something to watch as Morrow goes through the rehab process.
