Ricky Romero outrighted to Triple-A Buffalo

As part of a flurry of pitcher-related roster moves, the Blue Jays outrighted Ricky Romero.

Abelimages

The Blue Jays outrighted Ricky Romero to Triple-A Buffalo, and he is now off the 40-man roster, the team announced on Saturday.

Romero struggled greatly over the past season and a half, and this could be rock-bottom for the left-handed pitcher. After signing an extension just a few seasons ago, Romero has fallen to the point of being a Triple-A starter, not even able to get a spot over Ramon Ortiz.

The fact that he was outrighted means every team in baseball decided to pass on him, and that is not a good sign for him resurfacing any time soon. He will have to recapture the form that made him worth the four-year extension he signed.

The Blue Jays did get some good news with reports that Josh Johnson should be able to return to the rotation soon. That could be a boost that the Toronto rotation needs after losing Brandon Morrow with a forearm injury.

Romero has a 12.46 ERA over two starts this season, in which he pitched just 4-1/3 innings. He will have to work on getting back the command and stuff that he had just a few seasons ago.
