Mike Trout moves to left field as Angels activate Peter Bourjos

Mike Trout will have to move to left field with the return of Peter Bourjos from the disabled list.

Jesse Johnson-US PRESSWIRE

The Angels have activated center fielder Peter Bourjos from the disabled list, the team announced Monday. Chris Nelson was designated for assignment to make room on the 25-man roster.

The move causes a ripple in the bigger picture, too, because it means that Mike Trout will slide back over the the corner-outfield spot of left field -- despite his abilities in center field.

Bourjos missed 38 games with a left-hamstring strain and, in his absence, Trout excelled in center. Bourjos is hitting .313 over the span of 83 at-bats, however, and his excellent defense is his calling card -- good enough to displace even the defensive prowess of Mike Trout.

The Angels have been performing below expectations this season so Bourjos' speed and defense could give them the shot in the arm that they desperately need. At the very least, he should help out Josh Hamilton in regards to the amount of ground they have to cover as his range is one of his best assets.
