Allen Craig’s falling catch

It’s not as graceful as a dive, but it’s an out just the same.

Jeff Zelevansky

Allen Craig, in theory, can play in a few different positions defensively. Really, though, he's a first baseman you can stick in the outfield if you have to. This occasionally leads to adventures like this one in the outfield, in which Craig makes the catch, but does so in entertaining fashion:

First, we’ve got Craig going back on the ball, and you can see him sort of shade from side to side, unsure of exactly where the ball is going and where he needs to be -- you might need to watch it a couple of times to see the movements, but they are there. Then, you’ve got Craig in a position where he won’t be camped underneath where the ball is going, and can’t catch it over his shoulder on the run: instead, he just kind of hops, hopes, and catches it in motion, falling backwards into the wall.

My favorite part, though, is when he puts his hat back on after a job well done. Threat neutralized, crisis averted, inning over, and another episode of Allen Craig: Outfielder in the books.
