Giancarlo Stanton is back, hits homer

Our long national nightmare is over, as home run machine Giancarlo Stanton is back in the bigs.

Marc Serota

The Marlins entered Tuesday in a terrible stretch: it had been 38 days since Giancarlo Stanton's last home run. Stanton had been on the disabled list since late-April, and had only just returned to kick off this week. While Tuesday didn't start off looking like it would end this awful streak of homer-less baseball -- Stanton grounded out his first three times up -- he erased it all with one swing in the eighth:

This homer gave the Marlins a lead over the Brewers, and also reminded us of just how strong Stanton is. That pitch is low, but Stanton muscles it to left center anyway.

We also have the Brewers left and center fielders -- Logan Schafer and Carlos Gomez, respectively -- both going up for the ball in the same exact way, at almost the same moment, and landing similarly, too. Did Gomez go up too late, or Schafer too early? Either way, we were robbed of synchronized outfielding.
