2013 All-Star Game: MLB announces coaching staffs

All-Star managers Bruce Bochy of the San Francisco Giants and Jim Leyland of the Detroit Tigers have named their respective coaching staffs for the 2013 MLB All-Star Game, each choosing two managers with ties to the New York Mets, the league has announced in a release.

Joining Bochy and the National League All-Star team in the Citi Field dugout next month will be current Mets manager Terry Collins and Washington Nationals skipper Davey Johnson, who coached the Mets to a World Series title in 1986. This year marks the third opportunity to coach the All-Star festivities for both Collins and Johnson.

On the American League side of things, Leyland will be joined by Chicago White Sox manager Robin Ventura, who spent three seasons manning third base for the Mets at the turn of the millenium, and Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons, who served as a coach in the Mets' organization for over a decade. It is Ventura's first visit to the midsummer classic as a coach (he went twice as a player), and Gibbons' second.

Rounding out the clubs' coaching staffs are the rest of the Giants and Tigers' regular crew, from their pitching coaches -- Dave Righetti and Jeff Jones -- all the way down to their third-base coaches -- Roberto Kelly and Tom Brookens. Mets head trainer Ray Ramirez and Nats head athletic trainer Lee Kuntz will tend to the bumps and bruises of NL players, while head trainers Ron Porterfield and Rick Jameyson -- of the Rays and Red Sox, respectively -- will do the same for the AL.
