Derek Jeter injury: Yankees SS resumes hitting, fielding activities
Jeter was able to perform light hitting and fielding drills on Friday for the first time since breaking his ankle.

Jeter, 38, performed light hitting drills, hitting soft lobs and off a tee. He also took over thirty ground balls at shortstop. Jeter was able to throw over to first after a few of the grounders.
However, Jeter remains unsure of when he will come back. From the Associated Press’ Mark Didtler:
“Everything is a progression,” Jeter said. “Do more each and every day. As soon as I can do it, I’ll do it. As soon as I can comeback, I’ll be back.”
The veteran shortstop broke his ankle trying to field a ground ball during the American League Championship Series against the Detroit Tigers. Jeter had surgery a week after suffering the injury. He attempted to play during spring training but felt soreness and only appeared in five games.
A new fracture was discovered in mid-April during Jeter’s rehabilitation, causing another setback.
New York has been using Jayson Nix at shortstop recently, with Reid Brignac also receiving playing time. Eduardo Nunez started the season at short, but he suffered an oblique injury and has not played since May 5.
