Boston Red Sox pitcher Clay Buchholz was scratched from his Tuesday start against the Tampa Bay Rays and will not throw his scheduled bullpen session on Sunday due to stiffness in his right trap muscle, according to Rob Bradford of WEEI 93.7 FM. If the stiffness does not improve in time for his next start, he may be a candidate to be moved to the retroactive disabled list.

Buchholz, 28, last pitched on June 8 and will be scheduled to start on June 22 if his condition improves. The right-hander was to be the starter in one of two games in a doubleheader against the Rays on Tuesday after improving his record to 9-0 against the Los Angeles Angels last Saturday.
In 12 starts, Buchholz has earned a 1.71 earned run average with 81 strikeouts and just two home runs allowed. He is scheduled to pitch against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday, June 22 at Comerica Park.
