The Cleveland Indians may be forced to place outfielder/first baseman Nick Swisher on the disabled list due to a sore left shoulder. Swisher aggravated the injury in the fifth inning of Saturday night's game against the Nationals while swinging, reports the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Paul Hoynes.

Swisher has aggravated an injury that he has been dealing with all season and kept him out earlier in the year.

Swisher missed time earlier in the year with a similar injury that has not yet fully healed.
“I’ve been battling this shoulder thing the whole year. It’s super frustrating for me because I’ve never had something like this,” Swisher was quoted as saying in the Plain Dealer article.
The Indians signed Swisher to a four-year, $56 million contract in the offseason to bolster the middle of their batting order. However, he has not been hitting as well as was expected of him, with just a .739 OPS compared to a career .823 OPS. Swisher believes the injury is affecting his swing.
If Swisher is out for a prolonged period, the Indians depth chart lists Mark Reynolds and Carlos Santana as backups for first base, but both players have starting duties at third base and catcher, respectively.
Swisher is not in the Indians' lineup for Sunday's game. Reynolds is playing first base with John McDonald taking over at third base.
