Torii Hunter joins 300-home run club

Hunter hit his 300th home run against the team he hit his first home run for.

Detroit Tigers outfielder Torii Hunter hit home run No. 300 of his major-league career on Sunday against the Minnesota Twins, becoming the 136th player in major-league history to accomplish the feat.

Hunter's home run came in the top of the first inning against Twins starter P.J. Walters. With Austin Jackson standing on second base and nobody out, Walters grooved a belt-high fastball over the inside part of the plate which Hunter yanked over the left field wall.

The outfielder hit his first career home run as a member of the Twins on April 15, 1999, against the Tigers, Chris Iott of MLive notes. Hunter hit 192 home runs with Twins and 105 home runs with the Los Angeles Angels.

Hunter is now tied with Chuck Klein for 135th on the all-time home run chart, one home run behind legendary second baseman Rogers Hornsby. Hunter is the second active Tigers player with 300 career home runs, as third baseman Miguel Cabrera has slugged 339 homers.
