New York Mets starter Matt Harvey can bring it. In the first inning against the Braves on Tuesday, he threw 10 pitches, all of them four-seam fastballs. The last of these, to strike out Braves right fielder Jason Heyward, clocked in at 100 miles per hour according to the SNY broadcast:

Note the yellow flames on the broadcast’s radar gun: that’s how you know it’s legitimate heat! That, and Heyward being well behind the pitch, and the fact that it looks like it’s cruising to the plate even in the slo-mo replay that brings you to commercial:
For the record, the Braves' broadcast and the PITCHf/x figures from GameDay at MLB.com say that this pitch went 100, too. It's pretty common from a reliever, but anytime a non-Justin Verlander starter manages it, we should all take a moment for the appropriate oohs and aahs of appreciation.
Sure, the Mets have a lot going poorly for them at the moment, but they do have Matt Harvey, and hey, pitching prospect Zack Wheeler debuts later on Tuesday, too. It's not all bad these days.
