NCAA Baseball Tournament 2013 schedule: Day 1 rematches highlight Sunday’s action

Several No. 2 seeds get a crack at revenge after being upset on Friday.

Florida Atlantic is looking for revenge against Towson, who knocked them off 7-2 on Friday.

After Day 2, the field of the 2013 tournament is down to 48. Sixteen teams have been eliminated after going 0-2 (see ya, Florida and Bowling Green), and 16 teams have gone 2-0 and await Sunday’s early winners in the regional finals. That leaves 32 1-1 teams vying to avoid elimination in Day 3.

The early part of Sunday is largely about No. 2 and No. 3-seed rematches, as a majority of Friday’s winners in those matchups have been bounced back down into the losers’ bracket. Eleven of Sunday’s games will pit twos and threes against each other again. Clemson, Arkansas, Ole Miss and Florida Atlantic are among the No. 2 seeds looking for revenge after early upsets.

After falling to Rice 1-0 late Saturday night, Oregon is the only national seed facing elimination Sunday. Coincidentally (or not), the Ducks were the most controversial of the national seeds as well, with many believing N.C. State (which is 2-0) should have earned the eighth and final spot.

The winners of these early games won’t have much of a reprieve, as they’ll be forced to turn around and face the undefeated team in their bracket in Sunday’s round of late games.
