Alex Rodriguez injury: Yankees 3B making ‘fantastic’ progress from hip surgery

The Yankees received good news about their highly paid third baseman Thursday.

Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez is currently progressing toward a return and, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, his rehab is going "fantastic."

According to the report, Rodriguez is ahead of Derek Jeter at this point and could be ready to take his rehab assignment after the All Star Break.

Unlike Jeter, A-Rod is able to run full-speed, which comes as a relative surprise this soon after two offseason surgeries on his right hip. For the 38-year-old, the best thing might be just playing in games, as all of the recent news surrounding his involvement in the Biogenesis scandal has further tarnished his name.

This news is also excellent for the Yankees. They recently found out that their replacement, Kevin Youkilis, will miss at least 10-12 weeks after herniating his disc.

The Yankees believe that their third baseman will soon be ready to start playing in games, as he has been dazzling Yankees officials at the team complex in Tampa.

Rodriguez hit .272 in 2012 with 18 home runs, and would provide a desperately needed offensive boost to the Yankees.
