Martin Perez to start for Rangers on Saturday

The Rangers have recalled pitching prospect Martin Perez.

Layne Murdoch

The Rangers will start left-handed pitching prospect Martin Perez on Saturday night against the Cardinals, announced John Blake, the team's Executive Vice President of Communications.

Perez, who was originally slated to start the year in the big-league rotation, broke his arm in Spring Training and missed the beginning of the season. The once highly touted prospect has a chance to finally establish himself in the major leagues.

In 2012, he made 12 appearances, and had an ERA of 5.45 over 38 innings. He also made six starts.

The move pushes Yu Darvish back to Tuesday, and prevents the Darvish-Wainwright matchup from occurring Sunday night. Nick Tepesch becomes the new starting pitcher for Texas on Sunday night.

In a separate move, the Rangers will send Josh Lindblom to Round Rock to create a spot on the roster for first baseman Mitch Moreland, reports Anthony Andro of Fox Sports Southwest.

Moreland is batting .288 with 12 home runs this season, and will provide a steadying presence in the middle of the Rangers’ lineup.

The Rangers are currently in second place in the American League West division, behind only the Oakland Athletics.
