The Kansas City Royals have reached an agreement with supplemental first-round draft pick Sean Manaea for $3.55 million, Jim Callis of Baseball America reported first.
Royals sign Sean Manaea to record deal for supplemental draft pick
The lefty will sign the highest bonus figure ever given to a supplemental first-round pick.

The two parties have come to an agreement on the bonus figure and will finalize the contract in the next few days, Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star is reporting. Manaea will sign the highest bonus figure ever for a supplemental first-round draft pick; Nick Castellanos held the previous record, signing for $3.45 million in 2010 with the Detroit Tigers.
The southpaw looked electric last summer in the Cape Cod League and appeared poised to go early in the draft, but he battled some injury issues in the spring that lowered his draft stock. Manaea will need to undergo hip surgery to repair a torn labrum, but is expected to make a full recovery.
The Royals paid well over slot to select Manaea, as the No. 34 pick had a bonus slot of $1.623 million. Kansas City is about 1.9% over their pool, with eighth-round pick Cody Stubbs still unsigned. If Stubbs signs for slot, the Royals will pay a $120,675 tax, per Dutton.
