The New York Mets have announced that LHP Jon Niese will be placed on the disabled list with a partial tear of his right rotator cuff. The team recalled Greg Burke from Triple-A Las Vegas to take his spot in the lineup.

Niese left Thursday’s game early with what he thought was a sore shoulder, but he will instead be shut down for about two weeks and then undergo an MRI, according to ESPN’s Adam Rubin. Burke spent 21 games with the Mets while bouncing around between the majors and minors, allowing nine earned runs in 20 innings.

--The Tampa Bay Rays still don't have a timetable for RHP Alex Cobb's return. Cobb hasn't played since getting hit in the head with a line drive. The pitched was was placed on the seven-day concussion disabled list, but D Rays Bay noted that Cobb was at Tropicana Field doing arm exercises on Thursday.
--Colorado Rockies OF Dexter Fowler told Thomas Harding of MLB.com that his finger is feeling better and he expects to be back in the lineup on Friday. Fowler hurt his finger last Thursday and tried to play through it before finally sitting down for a couple games. X-rays came back clean, but there's still a chance the Rockies put him on the DL.
--Detroit Tigers OF Austin Jackson is still battling a sore leg and will be out of the lineup on Friday. It's not the same injury as the hamstring pull that cost him over a month, but MLB.com's Tigers beat writer Jason Beck notes that the soreness is in the same area. Jackson is getting treatment for the leg and his status for the weekend is up in the air.
--Cleveland Indians first baseman Nick Swisher took batting practice on Friday, his first time hitting in nearly a week since he's been hobbled with a shoulder injury. Depending on how he feels, he could be back in the lineup as soon as Saturday.
--The Baltimore Orioles placed OF Steve Pearce on the DL, retroactive to June 20, as Pearce battles tendinitis in his left wrist. To take his place on the roster, the team activated Miguel Gonzalez from the paternity leave list.
--Finally, the Tigers put OF Matt Tuiasosopo on the disabled list, retroactive to June 20. Tuiasosopo strained his intercostal muscles while hitting in the cage. The team recalled OF Avisail Garcia to replace him.
