The Chicago Cubs have sent versatile bench player Brent Lillibridge to the Yankees for cash or a player to be named later.

Lillibridge saw limited action with the Cubs this season, playing in just nine games with the big league team and recording one hit in 24 plate appearances for a batting average of .042. He spent the majority of the season with the team’s Triple-A affiliate in Charlotte. At that level, Lillibridge managed a more respectable .270/.330/.378 batting line over 173 plate appearances. He is a career .207/.271/.339 hitter over six seasons in the majors
Lillibridge’s bat may not offer much, but he does give the Yankees a viable backup fielder at almost any position. In his career, he has played at least 25 games at every position except pitcher and catcher. The Defensive Runs Saved metric rates him as an above average glove at every position except second base and shortstop and the Total Zone system sees him a plus defender at right and first. He is expected to report Triple-A for the Yankees at this point.
