Lucas Duda injury: Mets OF placed on disabled list with intercostal strain

The outfielder and first baseman had been experiencing soreness in his side. The Mets recalled Zach Lutz to take Duda’s place on the roster.

USA TODAY Sports

The Mets sent Lucas Duda back to New York to have tests on his side after he reported soreness Friday night and Saturday morning, according to Jorge Castillo of the Star-Ledger. MRI results revealed a left intercostal strain and Duda was placed on the disabled list, per Mets PR man Jay Horwitz.

This confirmed what Kevin Burkhardt of SNY reported earlier Saturday, that there was a "100% chance" Duda would go on the disabled list. Though there was a chance Ike Davis would be recalled, as Mets manager Terry Collins intimated, the club instead recalled corner man Zach Lutz.

Lutz, 27, was hitting .286/.372/.481 with seven home runs and 37 RBI in 53 games with Triple-A Las Vegas. Davis was sent down to Triple-A earlier in June after hitting just .161/.242/.258 in 2013. Davis has hit well in 11 minor league games, posting a 1.224 OPS.

Duda had been playing some at first base for the Mets after spending most of the season in the outfield. He currently has a .791 OPS with 11 home runs over 68 games. That OPS is third among qualified Mets players.
