Michael Morse injury: Mariners OF placed on DL with strained quad

The Mariners outfielder has battled the injury since May 28.

The Seattle Mariners placed outfielder Michael Morse on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday with a strained right quad, the team announced on Twitter. Seattle activated Franklin Gutierrez from the 60-day DL in a corresponding move, designating Triple-A outfielder Eric Thames for assignment to clear a 40-man spot for Gutierrez.

Morse suffered the quad injury on May 28 against the San Diego Padres and has only appeared in 11 of the team's 23 games since the injury. Morse is still second on the team in home runs despite the limited playing time over the past three weeks; Raul Ibanez leads Seattle with 14 home runs, while Morse is second with 11. The outfielder has hit .251/.313/.454 in 227 plate appearances.

Gutierrez has been on the disabled list since April 23 with a right hamstring strain. The 30-year-old had 57 plate appearances before heading to the disabled list, hitting .256/.286/.537.

Thames hit .295/.382/.479 in 249 plate appearances, and is currently on the minor league disabled list with a left wrist laceration.
