The Chicago Cubs traded relief pitcher Hisanori Takahashi to the Colorado Rockies for a player to be named later or cash, the Cubs announced on Twitter Saturday.

Takahashi has spent most of the season in Triple-A Iowa for the Cubs. The lefty has posted impressive numbers, sporting a 1.98 ERA in 27 1/3 innings pitched. Takahashi has thrown three innings at the major-league level for Chicago this season, allowing two runs while striking out three batters.

The 38-year-old experienced success for the New York Mets in 2010 and the Los Angeles Angels in 2011. Takahashi sported a 3.61 ERA in 122 innings pitched for the Mets, splitting time between the starting rotation and the bullpen. The southpaw lowered his ERA to 3.44 in 2011 for the Angels, throwing 68 innings as a full-time relief pitcher.

Takahashi struggled with the Angels and the Pittsburgh Pirates last season, going 0-3 with a 5.54 ERA over 51 relief appearances. His 2012 ERA estimators were still in line with his previous two seasons, however, so the Rockies are hoping that the veteran can return to form.
