Video: Wil Myers and Rays hit back-to-back-to-back homers

Two unlikely hitters join Wil Myers in an impressive display of power at the Trop.

USA TODAY Sports

Wil Myers played his first home game in the majors on Monday night, and it was a memorable one for the rookie. He hit a homer to center field, the Rays beat the Blue Jays to push them back into last place in the American League East, and Myers' shot put him in the middle of a back-to-back-to-back trio of homers, with the other two coming from unexpected places.

Rays' first baseman James Loney provided the initial blast, with Sam Fuld -- who has six career homers in 304 major-league games -- bringing up the rear. Myers' long ball was the most impressive of the three, and displayed the kind of easy power the Rays were hoping for when they traded James Shields and more for him this past off-season:

As Baseball Prospectus’ R.J. Anderson points out, Myers’ early season line has come in some impressive situations, with equally impressive hit locations:

The Rays were hitting without him, but if Myers keeps it up, he might be just what they needed to succeed in spite of an uncharacteristically weak season on the mound.
