New York Yankees right-hander Michael Pineda inched closer to the Bronx with a strong rehab start Tuesday night, throwing six shutout innings for Double-A Trenton.
Michael Pineda injury: Yankees RHP looks good in rehab start
The young right-hander threw six scoreless at Double-A Tuesday night, inching one step closer to his Yankees debut.

Pineda fanned only four batters on the day, but mixed pitches well and worked efficiently, needing just 78 pitches to get through his six scoreless frames. After the game, the right-hander said he was happy with his performance, per Jessica Quiroli of MLB.com:
”I had good location today. My velocity was better.. “I’m feeling good,” Pineda said. “Today I’m feeling stronger and my mechanics are better.”
The start was the 24-year-old’s third rehab outing -- though his first at Double-A -- in his prolonged recovery from a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder. Pineda now owns a 0.63 earned-run average and 2.75 strikeout-to-walk-ratio in 14⅓ innings through three rehab starts.
The six innings of work Tuesday night were the most that Pineda has thrown since late 2011, so the club will probably stretch him out a bit more before bringing him up to the Bronx. If all continues to go well for the right-hander, however, it shouldn’t be long before he makes his Yankees debut.
Pineda's next scheduled start is on Sunday, but it's unclear at the moment where he'll be throwing. If he stays with the Double-A club, then he'll take the mound on the road against the Binghamton Mets.
