The team has yet to officially announce the signing, as the outfielder will need to undergo a physical exam before signing the contract. The deal is worth $3,029,600, a source revealed to Weber. Meadows is the third player among the top 12 picks to sign for the full slot bonus; Kohl Stewart signed for the full bonus with the Minnesota Twins, as did D.J. Peterson with the Seattle Mariners.
Meadows, an 18-year-old outfielder out of Grayson High School (GA), was one of the most talented players selected in the MLB draft. Jonathan Mayo rated the outfielder as the fifth best player available, while Baseball America listed Meadows as the sixth best player. Meadows ceiling impressed Mayo, who wrote the following about the left-handed hitter:
Meadows has five-tool potential, a tremendous athlete who can do it all on the baseball field. He can run, has an outstanding arm and plenty of bat as he progresses.
The Pirates received the No. 9 pick the in the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft after failing to sign Mark Appel last season, who went No. 1 overall to the Houston Astros this year. Pittsburgh has also reached an agreement with No. 14 pick Reese McGuire.
