Jose Reyes injury: Blue Jays SS has bruised shin

Reyes suffered the injury when he fouled a ball of his shin, but is thankful that he did not hit his ankle.

USA TODAY Sports

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Jose Reyes suffered a bruised shin during Thursday's game against the Boston Red Sox, per Jason Mastrodonato of MLB.com.

Reyes fouled a Jon Lester cut fastball off his leg in the top of the fourth inning. The infielder stayed in the game, but had a noticeable bruise in the locker room following the game. Reyes was thankful that the ball did not hit his ankle, and told Mastrodonato that he should be fine.

The shortstop missed more than three months of playing time after suffering a severe high ankle sprain on April 12 while attempting a stolen base against the Kansas City Royals. Reyes is 0-for-6 since returning to the lineup, but informed Mastrodonato that it's too early to be concerned about his swing:

“It’s OK. Still some work to do, but it’s going to come. It’s something I don’t worry about. It’s my second game. I’ve been out a long time, so I’m going to continue to work hard.”

Reyes contributed offensively before heading to the disabled list, as he is hitting .341/.412/.455 on the season with five stolen bases despite missing 66 games.
