Miami Marlins not expected to sign No. 35 pick

Matt Krook, the Marlins first-round supplemental pick, has decided to pitch for Oregon next season.

The Miami Marlins are not expected to sign prep pitcher Matt Krook, who the Marlins selected with the No. 35 pick in the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft, per Joe Frisaro of MLB.com.

Miami selected Krook in the supplemental first-round of the Amateur Draft. The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported that the two sides had agreed to terms, but Krook failed his physical, which prompted the Marlins to reduce their offer. Krook refused the reduced offer, and will honor his commitment to the Oregon Ducks instead.

The left-handed pitcher has until July 12 to reconsider signing a deal with the Marlins, but a source told Frisaro that there is “no chance,” that Krook changes his mind.

The Marlins will lose $1.5877 million from their draft bonus pool if they fail to sign Krook. Third baseman Colin Moran, the team’s first round draft choice and No. 6 overall pick in the draft, has not yet signed with the Marlins either, but the team is confident they will reach a deal.

Miami will receive the No. 36 pick in the draft next season if they do not sign Krook.
