Alexi Ogando injury: Rangers RHP is not expected to return until after All-Star break

The starter will need to throw live batting practice before beginning his rehab assignment.

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Alexi Ogando is not expected to return until after the All-Star break, manager Ron Washington told Jeff Wilson of the Star-Telegram.

Washington said that Ogando will need to throw live batting practice before going on a rehab assignment, which could last up to thirty days. The right-handed pitcher is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Friday.

Oganado is currently on his second DL stint of the season for the Rangers. The pitcher had success out of the rotation this season, going 4-2 with a 2.93 ERA over ten starts this season.

Texas has used Ogando out of the bullpen in the past, but is planning to reinstate the pitcher into the rotation. Colby Lewis, Neftali Feliz and Ogando are all currently on the disabled list, but hope to return to the Rangers pitching ranks later in the summer.

The Rangers are also looking to outside help for their pitching staff, as they are one of several teams interested in Matt Garza, per Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
