Ross Detwiler injury: Nationals SP questionable for next start

Detwiler is suffering from lower back stiffness that does not appear to be related to an earlier oblique injury.

USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Nationals are unsure if pitcher Ross Detwiler will be able to make his next scheduled start on Wednesday as he deals with a stiff lower back, according to Mark Zuckerman of CSN Washington.

The current stiffness is in a different location than an oblique injury that caused Detwiler to miss a month earlier in the season. Detwiler returned from that injury in mid-June and has made four starts since. Detwiler has made 12 starts this season, compiling a 4.13 ERA and 1.485 WHIP.

If Detwiler cannot make his start, Nationals manager Davey Johnson said he would start Ross Ohlendorf. Ohlendorf made a spot start for Washington on June 12, allowing two hits and a run over six innings against the Rockies. He has spent most of the 2012 season in the minors, posting a 4.27 ERA in 13 appearances, 12 of which were starts.
