For many Braves fans, Chipper Jones symbolized Atlanta baseball over the past two decades. The team honored Jones' contributions to Braves baseball prior to Friday's game by retiring the No. 10 that Jones had worn for 19 seasons in Atlanta.

Jones is one of the all-time greats in Braves’ history. The team expressed its appreciation by retiring his number and inducting him into the franchise’s Hall of Fame.

The Braves also held a ceremony Friday afternoon to induct Jones into the team’s Hall of Fame, with over 1,300 people coming to watch. Jones is a likely candidate for the Baseball Hall of Fame when he is eligible to be elected in 2018.
Jones spent his entire career with the Braves. He is second in team history in games played, hits, doubles, runs scored, and RBI. The only player ahead of him in each of those categories is Hank Aaron. Jones is also third in home runs, behind Aaron and Eddie Mathews.
He became the 10th Atlanta Brave to have his number retired by the organization, joining Hank Aaron (44), Warren Spahn (21), Eddie Mathews (44), Phil Niekro (35), Dale Murphy (3), Greg Maddux (31), Tom Glavine (47), John Smoltz (29), and Bobby Cox (6).
